Jim Lippman founded JRK Property Holdings in 1992 and currently serves as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Since its inception as a six-person firm, the company has grown to a national leader in the commercial real estate sector with approximately 1,200 employees, a portfolio valued at over $3.5 billion with over $300 million in annual revenues, 42,000 multifamily units in twenty seven states, flagged and boutique hotels across the country, and 1,885 self storage units. With Jim at the helm of JRK, the company has invested in the acquisition of hundreds of properties with an average net IRR in excess of 40% on an average 10-year hold period.

Most recently in January of 2007, Jim founded JRK Birchmont Advisors to serve as the private equity division of JRK Property Holdings, thus providing its limited partners with access to direct investment opportunities in income-producing commercial real estate. JRK Birchmont Advisors currently manages a diversified portfolio valued in excess of $800 million consisting of 50 multifamily, office, industrial and hotel properties.

Prior to founding JRK Property Holdings and its subsidiaries (JRK Birchmont Advisors, JRK Residential Group, and JRK Hotel Group), Jim was the managing director of the Signature Group, where he managed a $1 billion, diversified real estate portfolio that included direct and indirect ownership in commercial properties as well as various debt and equity securities. He was also the lead underwriter in conjunction with Morgan Stanley and Bankers Trust in bidding numerous portfolios being divested from the Resolution Trust Corporation.

Prior to commercial real estate, Jim was a commodities futures and equity options arbitrageur. He held positions at several Wall Street firms including Oppenheimer Company where he traded equities for the firm’s proprietary investment account and Drexel Burnham Lambert where he arbitraged equity options for the firm’s proprietary investment account. He went on to found Brothers Trading, a commodities trading firm with membership in both COMEX and the New York Mercantile Exchange.

In 1989, Jim was presented with the opportunity to enter into the commercial real estate industry and move his family from New York to California. Immediately after beginning his new career, Jim realized that commercial real estate was his true passion as he was able to combine his arbitrage investment experience and philosophy with the creative talent required to reposition and renovate properties. Due to his prior background on Wall Street, Jim’s real estate investing philosophy involves taking advantage of opportunities whereby superior risk-adjusted returns can be realized by identifying underperforming properties and actively managing them to realize operating inefficiencies. This approach has allowed JRK to realize tremendous returns on investment regardless of market and valuation trends at the time the investment is made.

Jim earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Union College. He currently resides in Brentwood with his wife of 23 years and three children. In his spare time, Jim enjoys skiing, tennis, golf, working out, travel, and fine dining. Philanthropy is also very important to Jim and he has been actively involved, including sitting on and participating on committees of many private and public boards nationwide, such as Union College of New York, several Los Angeles schools including The Brentwood School and the Village School (Pacific Palisades), the University Synagogue in Brentwood, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of Los Angeles.
